Issue with wsconfig on 64 bit OS X

January 9, 2010 · No Comments

I've helped a good number of folks out now with an issue on OS X, whilst trying to install 64 bit ColdFusion 8 and 9.

There seems to have been a bug introduced into the web server connector update that was released as a fix for security issue CVE-2009-1876 for CF8 (and subsequently found it's way into CF9).

What happens is that the 32 bit connector file for Apache is always installed, resulting in a lack of working ColdFusion pages.

The fix is to simply find the wsconfig.jar file, extract it (remember Jars are just Zip files) and extract the 64 bit version of mod_jrun22.so (I'm assuming Apache 2.2 here).

You then just copy it over the version of mod_jrun22.so which was installed. You'll find it in /lib/wsconfig/1 or /runtime/lib/wsconfig/1 depending on your configuration.

As an aside, the majority of people I've helped with this issue have hit the problem during installation because they're asked the ColdFusion installer to configure Apache during installation.

I always recommend you install using the built-in web server first, and deal with your external web server later. Doing so alows you to confirm ColdFusion is installed, configured and running. Then, when you configure the web server, if you hit an issue you KNOW it's a problem with wsconfig.
