(OT):St Andrew's Day - yes that means beer!

Not that I ever need an excuse to drink, but today is St Andrew's Day. For those numpties amongst you, St Andrew is the Patron Saint of Scotland. As per usual, tonight will see a few friends and myself hit the bar, literally, and toast a few drinks to celebrate. And yes, this will be my first drink since coming back from Boston. I've only just awoken from the alcohol induced coma! ps yes Mr Webster, you are absolutely right, I simply cannot make a blog posting without mentioning drink.

Boston on High Alert for Drunken Scotsman

I'm off to Boston next week so for those who annoy me continuously, and for those I annoy on a regular basis I'm sure we'll all enjoy a well earned break. I've been out before, around 3 and a half years ago but this time I have a purpose, whereas last time it was just one enormous drunken brawl. Don't get me wrong, I intend to drink myself daft just like last time, however I have a deviously evil plan this time around ... and that's to steal the Macromedia sign off of their building at 275 Grove Street before it gets replaced by an Adobe one. Getting it back on the plane to Glasgow I've not yet figured out, but I'll aim low by just planning to acquire the sign first. Of course, I won't be risking arrest until after I've paid a visit to the lovely MM folks themselves, including Mr Rock n Roll himself, Ed Sullivan. Being a User Group Manager, I've given Ed a lot of grief over the past year so I think it's only fair that I buy him some beer and apologise for the t-shirt I send him back in May. Ed unfortunately couldn't make it to Scotch on the Rocks so I got one of his co-workers to send me a photo of him and proceeded to stick a C-U-Jimmy hat on him. Very flattering I must say. Obviously I also intend to deliberately bump into a few of the CF Product Team as well, and grab some free product support and MX 7 Enterprise Licenses in exchange for beer. I will also introduce them to the wonder that is Irn Bru, the world's only guaranteed hangover cure. A nice fry up with tattie scones, black pudding and lorne sausage works a treat too. ps I wonder if the Big Dig is finished yet, and whether it will actually look any different to the big holes that were all over the place back in 2002.

Flex 2 and Flash Player 8.5 with Mike Chambers and Danny Dura

On the 22nd of November, Macromedia's Mike Chambers and Danny Dura will be presenting on Flex 2 and Flash Player 8.5 here in lovely sunny Edinburgh. This is a joint meeting of the Scottish ColdFusion, JRun and RIA groups. Mike will give an overview of where the Flash Platform is today, and take a look at what Macromedia is doing to help drive its growth in the future. He will then discuss and show the recently released Alpha versions of Flex Builder 2, Flex 2, and ActionScript 3, Flash Player 8.5, and how they make it easy for any developer to create content and applications for the Flash Platform. Danny's talk has still to be confirmed (he loses a beer for every day it's late) but this will be a presentation you definately don't want to miss. We're hosting things at the University of Edinburgh, we'll be getting started at 6.30pm Registration is by email to myself manager@scottishcfug.com and I need your name, company and email address. Up to date info including directions can be found on www.scottishcfug.com We'll also have a copy of Studio 8 to raffle as well. Hope you can join us.
